Spiking the Ball to Conserve Time - Pistol

Q: Last Friday, our QB spiked the football from the gun which the referee indicated was not legal. Just checking to make sure we do what the rule allows when spiking the FB. Do you have to be under center to spike the ball to stop the clock?
A: Page 60 of the NFHS Football Rules Book, there is an exception which states direct Hand-to-Hand. The rule was addressed at the NFHS Football Rules Committee meeting and did not change that for the pistol or shot gun snaps.
