Q:  This year, the last Saturday tournament prior to conference falls on February 1st.  This presents a question that needs clarifying...On (REGIONAL DATE), everyone in the state usually gets a 1 pound allowance.  If one of the teams in a tournament on (REGIONAL DATE) wrestles, everyone should get an extra pound for that as well.  However, the state tournament is the only time when more than 1 pound has been given.  So, for the (REGIONAL DATE) tourneys this year, does everyone get the (REGIONAL DATE) pound, and also an extra pound, if one of the teams competes the night before?

Note:  The February growth allowance is now the day of Regional wrestling (effective 2017-18 season).

A:  Those are two separate rules and the treated as such.  Everyone gets one pound for the growth allowance.  If there is consecutive days of wrestling one pound may be requested.

State is different in the fact that they are provided a pound per day for consecutive wrestling which is not allowed during the regular season where it is one pound no matter how many consecutive days of wrestling.

On page 44 of the Winter Regulations:

c. A maximum of 1 lb. allowance shall be granted for successive days of wrestling regardless of the number of successive events, or number of schools involved. The WIAA three day State tournament will be the only exception.

Note: The WIAA three day tournament will not include any additional growth allowance beyond the traditional 1 lb. per day unless the tournament is delayed or postponed due to weather.

Therefore, at state wrestlers will get one pound for Friday and only one pound on Saturday.  The March 1st growth allowance will only be used team state.
