Bill Ferrario, the former offensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers, is the scheduled feature speaker at the 30th Annual WIAA Scholar Athlete Awards Ceremony to be held at the Jefferson Street Inn in Wausau, Wis., on Sunday, May 5.

Ferrario played three seasons as a reserve offensive guard and center with the Green Bay Packers from 2001-03. He started on the Packers’ special teams units including kickoff returns, point-afters and field goals. In addition, he played tight end for goal line and short-yardage situations.

He spent the 2004 off-season with the Washington Redskins and was eventually signed by the Carolina Panthers, where he finished the final season of his career.

Ferrario was the fourth-round selection of the Green Bay Packers and the 105th pick overall in the 2001 NFL Draft after enjoying a brilliant collegiate career at the University of Wisconsin. He started every game during his four-year playing career with the Badgers after red-shirting his first year as a defensive lineman.

After the transition to left guard in 1997, he became only the third player in Big Ten history to start all 50 games in a career. He earned All-Big Ten first team honors his junior and senior seasons and received College Football All-America recognition his final season.

He was one of the key components of Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne’s record-setting success with the Badgers, opening holes for the NCAA’s career rushing leader for three seasons. During his time at UW, the Badgers won two Big Ten titles and two Rose Bowls. He was named one of the all-time top 50 Badgers in the history of the football program, and in 2001, he graduated from UW with a degree in history.

Ferrario was recruited by the Badgers out of West Scranton High School in Scranton, Pa., where he starred on the offensive and defensive lines. He was later elected to the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

He currently resides in Wausau, Wis., working in the sales profession. He volunteers at numerous community events and serves as a personal trainer to athletes of all ages to help improve their game.

The 32 State Scholar Athlete Award winners, as well as their families and school representatives, will be recognized at the ceremony. A live webcast of the awards ceremony will be available at www.wiaa.tv <http://www.wiaawi.org/> beginning at 1 p.m.
