Kevin Borseth will be the featured speaker at the 2014 Scholar Athlete Award Banquet scheduled for Sunday, May 4, at the Jefferson Inn in Wausau, Wis.

Borseth just completed his second season in his second stint at the helm of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women’s basketball program in 2013-14.

Borseth led a young UW-Green Bay squad to its 16th-consecutive Horizon League title and 27th all-time 20+ win season en route to being named the Horizon League Coach of the Year for the eighth time in his 11 years at the helm. He also coached the Horizon League Freshman of the Year Tesha Buck in addition to second team all-league honoree Kaili Lukan.

Last season, Borseth led the Phoenix to an overall record of 29-3 and a perfect 16-0 in the Horizon League, the team’s 36th-straight winning season and 15th consecutive regular season Horizon League title. The team also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time under his guidance.

Borseth’s overall record at UW-Green Bay stands at 267-75 (including the 2013-14 season) and 154-16 in the Horizon League. In 15 seasons as a D-I head coach with stops at UW-Green Bay and the University of Michigan, Borseth is 354-147.

All told, the 27-year head coaching veteran has an impressive record of 579-245 in his stints at Michigan Tech (1987-1998), UW-Green Bay (1998-2007; 2012-present) and Michigan (2007-2012).

UW-Green Bay Athletics Director Ken Bothof announced the hiring of Kevin Borseth as the head women’s basketball coach on April 5, 2012. Borseth, who compiled a 216-62 record in nine seasons previously serving in the same capacity at UW-Green Bay, returned to the Phoenix after spending the previous five seasons as the head coach at the University of Michigan.

Under Borseth’s watch from 1998-2007, UW-Green Bay advanced to the postseason in all nine seasons, including seven trips to the NCAA Tournament.

The Phoenix also won the regular season conference championship in each of his nine seasons at the helm, beginning a stretch that currently stands at 15.

Borseth compiled an overall record of 87-73 record during his five seasons as the head coach at the University of Michigan, taking over a program that had won just 21 games in the prior three seasons combined and led the Wolverines to 19 wins and a postseason berth in his first season in 2007-08.

In five seasons at the helm at Michigan, Borseth led the Wolverines to three postseasons, including a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2012, the program’s first since 2000-01.

During his time at UW-Green Bay, Borseth was named the conference coach of the year seven times and led the program to its first two NCAA Tournament victories with wins over Washington in 2003 and New Mexico in 2007.

Borseth coached a number of the most legendary players in the program’s storied history, including the top two all-time leading scorers, Chari Nordgaard and Nicole Soulis. He also recruited recent standouts Celeste Hoewisch, Kayla Tetschlag and Julie Wojta to Green Bay and coached Hoewisch during her redshirt campaign in 2006-07.

Borseth graduated from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. As a member of the Laker basketball roster, Borseth helped his team to a 27-3 record over two years as well as a 1976 NAIA championship berth. Prior to his time at LSSU, Borseth attended Gogebic Community College and played for the Samson basketball team.

Borseth and his wife Connie have five children; KC, Kayla, Carli, Kaitlyn and Kale.
